PONDA: The locals who attended the Marcaim gram sabha on Sunday demanded to know the number of jobs provided to locals and outsiders at the Marcaim Industrial Estate.
There were heated discussions on the issue of unemployment among local youth, in spite of having a massive Industrial Estate at Marcaim. Premanand Gaude and other villagers alleged that only a few locals were employed at these industries, while most jobs were given to outsiders. The villagers demanded that the panchayat should immediately look into the matter and furnish statistics of how many workers were from Goa, in every project at the industrial estate.
The villagers also pointed out that there was no air-conditioned hall within the panchayat and stressed the need for one. Complaining about the pathetic condition of their roads, the villagers urged the panchayat to take action to repair these roads on priority basis. Sarpanch Shailendra Panjikar chaired the gram sabha, while the other panchas were also present. which began after secretary Nitin Bandodkar presented the report of the previous sabha.
