According to sources, hot-mixing work of NH17 road commenced early Monday morning on the Shristhal-Bhatpal highway section and traffic was regularly halted to allow the traffic flow alternately on either way.
However, the long period traffic halts got many SSC students, who were proceeding to their examination halls on Monday, worried and anxiety loomed large as to their reaching examination halls in time.
Finding the vehicles in serpentine queues, many students who were travelling to their respective examination halls situated in Mastimoll and Chaudi and Char-Rasta, alighted from their buses and began to walk.
Eye witnesses said a few SSC students reached their examination hall at Government Higher Secondary School Mastimoll after walking from Khalwadem.
“Long traffic hurdles especially during peak hours irked many commuters and motorists alike,” said a resident, Ajay Lolienkar.
Residents have also called on the authorities to avoid traffic halts during important hours.
Canacona Centre has Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Char-Rasta, as main centre, while St Thereza of Jesus HS, Chaudi, and Government Higher Secondary School, Mastimoll, as two sub-centres.
