PANJIM: In one of its kind, an app to keep vigil and report on all the illegal activities, violations and garbage menace, across 105-km coastline was launched, on Friday.
The Tourism Department’s “Beach Vigil Mobile App” is to report, respond and resolve any offences reported at beaches in the State. At initial phase, the app will be rolled out to the department, Goa Police, Drishti, shack owners and in the next phase it will be available to citizens to download and report offences.
“The app will be a point of coordination between police, beach cleaning agency, Drishti lifesavers, shack owners and the State Tourism Department,” said Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte at the launch.
The minister further pointed out that lack of co-ordination between these five bodies has led to many problems in beach management.
“We being a tourism State, it is our duty to ensure we provide safe and clean environment to the tourists visiting the beaches,” he said.
Khaunte said that all the agencies need to work together to ensure that “Atithi Devo Bhava” idea is followed. He said that no illegal activities on the beaches will be tolerated.
CM Pramod Sawant, who launched the app, said that facility will also help the government to bring in necessary improvement and development in the tourism sector.
