PANJIM: Former Supreme Court Judge Justice B Sudershan Reddy’s appointment as Goa’s first Lokayukta was challenged before the Bombay High Court at Goa Friday by an activist.
In his petition filed before the division bench of Justices A P Lavande and U V Bakre, the activist has sought quashing and setting aside the appointment made on March 3, 2013, alleging that the appointment was not in accordance with the law and that the primacy of the Chief Justice in matters of selection to high judicial and quasi judicial posts could not be whittled down by illegal actions of the Government.
“The entire selection process was not transparent, as the intention of the Government was to select and appoint a Lokayukta of the choice of the ruling party and of its Chief Minister,” the petitioner alleged.
The petition will come up for hearing on April 15.
