VASCO: Fear of apparent lockdown extension beyond Monday propelled people into panic buying in Vasco on Thursday. Though there has been a clear declaration of availability of the essentials during the lockdown and of grocery shops remaining open, a mad rush in the vegetable, fish market and other shops was witnessed throughout the day.
It was very surprising to see that most educated living in urban areas were seen flocking in the shops and in market places despite knowing that grocery shops and essential services will continue to remain operational.
One old lady, who had come to purchase some veggies and grocery, said that she had to come to market listening about lockdown. She argued that she doesn’t want to revisit the same situation she was subjected to, following the last lockdown when her family had no veggies and cooking items at home and she had to somehow manage by borrowing neighbors.
