CHINCHINIM: The gram sabha members on Sunday urged the Chinchinim-Deussua Panchayat to approach the courts with regards to the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).

The ordinary gram sabha was held on Sunday after almost a year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which was attended by nearly 180 villagers.

A surplus Budget for 2021-22 was approved by those present but, gram sabha member Savio Lopes suggested that prior to drafting the annual Budget; the panchayat should convene a meeting with the villagers, said Sarpanch Inacina Rebello.

Another villager Charlton Furtado enquired with regards to the progress of the works undertaken by the panchayat under the XIV Finance Commission grants.

He sought to know where these works were being undertaken. He also posed questions with regards to the CZMP, electricity and the fish vendors occupying the spaces outside the market.

Furtado said he along with the panchayat should approach the courts regarding the CZMP.

He sought to know whether any place had been identified to set up the biodigester. The sarpanch said a place would be identified along with the villagers.

Rebello assured Furtado that the issues raised by him would be resolved while explaining in detail how the XIV Finance Commission grants were utilised.

The issue of the accumulated garbage at Sucaldem was also discussed with the gram sabha members demanding that it be cleared immediately.

The sarpanch claimed that it was cleared on a regular basis. The members insisted that the amount be recovered from the defaulters.

To a query by Bailancho Ekvott regarding the Hindu crematorium at Sancmoddi, the gram sabha members said since it was existing pre-Liberation, the panchayat should not have any objection to the works.

Besides, the wetland proposal in Durga ward was also highlighted with the sarpanch informing the gram sabha that the panchayat had already written to the authorities in this regard.

The sarpanch said the wetland was not required at Durga ward.

Another villager Malcolm Pereira raised the issue of mega projects in the village.
