MARGAO: Elections to the vacant post of Aquem-Baixo Sarpanch will be filled up on September 18, but the panchayat director is still silent on filling up the vacancies of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of the panchayats of Guirdolim and Dramapur-Sirlim.
Salcete BDO office informed that the Panchayat Director has already issued a notice to hold elections to the vacant post of sarpanch at Aquem-Baixo on September 18. The elections have been necessitated following the ouster of Sarpanch Geeta Damu Naik from office in a no-confidence motion on August 19. Incidentally, though the Panchayat Director had issued an order to fill up the vacant post of Aquem-Baixo Sarpanch, inquiries have revealed that similar order has not been issued till date to fill up the vacancies at Guirdolim and Dramapur-Sirlim.
The Guirdolim Sarpanch Milagres de Chandor was also dislodged from office on August 19 as was the case of the Aquem-Baixo Sarpanch. Salcete BDO officials said that holding elections for the post of Sarpanch is the prerogative of the Panchayat Director. Presently, both the village panchayats of Guirdolim and Dramapur-Sirlim are under the rule of Administrators.
