CANACONA: In an unusual gesture, Power Minister Milind Naik was felicitated for ushering in widespread improvement in power at several parts of the Canacona taluka.
Naik was presented with a shawl, shreefal, citation and a silver-plated Ganesh idol by Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar at function at the office of the assistant executive engineer, Canacona.
Earlier, accompanied by Tawadkar, Naik switched on electrification at the residential area in Fulamoll-Gauliwada, apparently the last area in Canacona taluka still without electricity since Goa’s liberation.
A series of newly installed transformers were commissioned within the municipal area including Palolem beach. Tawadkar commended Naik for ushering in many changes and improvements in power supply to the taluka.
Responding to the felicitation, Naik felt that his officers still need to work more to bring satisfaction to all the residents in Canacona taluka.
“Since I have taken over, notable changes and improvements have taken place in 2-3 talukas, including Canacona, due to dedicated work of the department staff. I expect the same sort of improvement in other talukas,” said Naik.
With Rs 68 crore worth underground power cabling work under the tribal sub-plan set to begin at Gaondongrim and Cotigao, besides the interior Nadkem locality, the power department is also working on a plan to lay underground cables in Canacona municipal areas, beginning with Palolem coast and Agonda in next few months.
It was also informed that 17 new transformers in rural areas and seven new transformers in municipal areas were commissioned in the taluka since the BJP government came to power.
Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Madhav Dessai, SP (Poinguinim) Krishna Velip, Power Minister’s OSD and Goa Meat Complex Chairman Glyndon Monteiro, sarpanchas Navneet Naik Gaunkar (Agonda), Laximan Raikar (Shristhal), Umesh Velip (Gaondongrim), Meena Gaonkar (Cotigao), Mahesh Naik (Poinguinim) and Bhushan Prabhugaonkar (Loliem-Polem), Canacona Electricity department assistant executive engineer Santosh Lolienkar were present on the occasion.
