MARGAO: A group of residents on Tuesday called on Aquem-Baixo sarpanch Sharon Quadros and demanded to know the panchayat stand on the constructions that have come up at Fuslabhat in the village.
They sought to know why there was no action against the structures when the panchayat authorities have directed the panchayat to act against the constructions.
After a meeting, activist Raju Aiyar told the media that the residents have asked the sarpanch to act against the structures as per the law.
“When the constructions had started coming up in December, we sought to question the sarpanch why the panchayat was dilly dallying on the matter. The BDO had told the Secretary to stop the work immediately, but nothing has changed on the ground. We want to tell the panchayat not to encourage constructions without following the procedure. Don’t resort to vote-bank politics, but go as per law”, Aiyar said.
When contacted, sarpanch Sharon told the media that an inspection was fixed, but the inspection team has intimated the body to postpone the same due to its pre-occupation. “The panchayat has now fixed the inspection on February 6, but the residents have requested the inspection at the earliest and halt to the ongoing work”, she said.
She added that the panchayat would take a call on the structures only after the scheduled inspection.
