Accuse him of filing false cases against them

MARGAO: Residents of Aquem under the banner of Aquem Ground Bachao Association on Tuesday held a demonstration outside the Margao police headquarters demanding arrest of the builder for allegedly filing false cases against them.
Armed with placards, a group of residents shouted slogans against the builder and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and others. After an hour-long demonstration, a delegation led by Adv Jawahar Dias later called on the district police chief Shekhar Prabhudessai and handed over a representation calling for maintaining status quo in the matter till all the enquiries are complete.
The delegation also demanded a probe into the cases registered against the residents upon a complaint from the builder, with a further demand to transfer both DySP Mohan Naik and Margao PI Sudesh Naik.
After the meeting, Adv Dias told the media that the delegation impressed upon the district police chief that there’s no finality to the license granted by the Margao Municipal Council to the builder since an appeal is pending before the Director of Municipal Administration. He said the residents will also challenge the legality of the decision to change Costa ground green zone to C2 zone.
General Secretary of the Association Andrew Sequeira blamed the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat for the present situation. He said the people of Aquem will not rest till they take the ongoing movement to its logical conclusion.
When contacted, the district police chief said he told the delegation that their representation would be looked into. Replying to a question, he said the police cannot stop the builder from executing work in the property, adding that the aggrieved persons will have to approach the court of law and get an order staying the work.
