Aquem locals oppose renaming Pandava Copel area

MARGAO: The residents of Aquem and adjoining areas have expressed shock and disappointment at the Margao Municipal Council for passing a resolution to rename the area opposite St Sebastian Church as ‘Chandrakant Keni Square’.

MARGAO: The residents of Aquem and adjoining areas have expressed shock and disappointment at the Margao Municipal Council for passing a resolution to rename the area opposite St Sebastian Church as ‘Chandrakant Keni Square’. 
The Aquem residents said that they have deep respect and honour for the late Chandrakant Keni, for his contribution to various social issues in Goa, and for being an outstanding citizen.
The Aquemkaars say that the location opposite the St Sebastian Church has been historically and popularly known as “Pandava Copel” by the people of Goa, and continues as such till date and the people of Aquem wish that the location continues to be known as such in the future. 
The MMC Chairperson was summoned by the Aquemkaars on this issue after which the chairperson has assured to initially cancel the function planned to be held soon to rename the said square. The MMC Chairperson has opined that they would not take any step that would disturb the peace of the town.
