Local residents from Girkar Wado in Arambo and the MLA met the Chief Minister and the Environment Minister regarding the imminent demolition of structures in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) area. These residents, mainly traditional fishermen, expressed concerns over the potential destruction of their homes. The issue arose following a complaint, leading the High Court to order a survey of illegal constructions in the area built by non-locals, the High Court’s directive extended to seal another nearby illegal construction, and this instilled fear among locals about the safety of their homes.
The Chief Minister has assured to hold a meeting on January 4th, involving the AG, the Environment Minister, & CRZ officials to devise a solution to address the situation. “The High Court has instructed to demolish the illegal structures in the area, we’ll save whatever is legal. We will try to find a solution. The government will support the locals,” said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant
