“We are dismayed to learn that a Catholic nun in Chhattisgarh was sexually assaulted and found gagged and tied to a cot on the night of June 19, this year. The incident, which missed the headlines in the mainstream press, took place in Raipur, in a health centre run by the Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate.”
He goes on to say, “This dastardly act causes revulsion all the more as it was carried out on a person who was dedicated to the service of the poor and the lower middle class people of the locality. We are also disappointed that the culprits are not yet nabbed, in spite of the state machinery pressing into action, as it is officially claimed, the services of a hundred police personnel.”
“In this testing moment for the Christian community in Raipur, I would like to express our solidarity with the Archbishop of Raipur and the flock under his care and join them in their prayer campaign to have their grievances redressed. We also pray that the clouds of fear and insecurity looming large on the minority communities throughout our country may be dispelled and that we may soon live in freedom.”
