PANJIM: Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao on Sunday invited the Catholics to walk and grow in faith and to witness this faith in their day to day lives by fulfilling ones responsibilities towards neighbours by mainly service or reaching out to the needy, maintaining fraternity and social friendship and growing in Holiness offered to us by Christ.
In his Homily during the Holy Eucharist Celebration, at the ruins of the Old Church of Sancoale, Archbishop Ferrao also reminded the laity that this also carries with it our responsibility towards protecting the environment.
The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman organised its annual Lenten Walking Pilgrimage to Sancoale, early Sunday morning. Catholics from across Goa participated in this pilgrimage, albeit in limited numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The pilgrimage that started from three centres, namely Agassaim, Cortalim and St Jacinto Bridge ended up at the ruins of the Old Church of Sancoale, with the Holy Eucharist Celebrated by Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao.
Earlier, during the day, many parishes organised penitential walk in their parishes itself since most people could not attend the walking pilgrimage due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The walking pilgrimage which usually attracts crowd of around 25,000 people was restricted this time only to around 30 representatives from each Deanery. Some parishes also organised Way of the Cross and other penitential services in their own parishes in view of and to unite themselves to the whole Archdiocese spiritually.
The pilgrimage ended with offering of petitions to the Lord by burning the offered petitions, which were written on paper, in front of the Cross near the Façade of the Old Sancoale Church.
It ended with the resolve that “We will Journey with Christ in Faith by Imbibing the Values of Christ in our Life”, especially during this Lenten Season.
