Archbishop’s view on CAA has to be respected: Aldona MLA

MAPUSA: There is no need to make a hue and cry over the Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao’s views on CAA, said Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo.

“Being a head of the Catholic church of State of Goa as well as union territory of Daman, the Archbishop has voiced his opinion otherwise tomorrow the Catholic community might say being the head, why he is silent and not expressed his views”.

“Archbishop expressed his views and it has to be respected because we are in a democracy and being in a democracy every citizen has the right to voice his opinion and that’s the reason why he felt he should write to the Centre”, said Ticlo.

Commenting further on the statements made by other leaders, the Aldona MLA said, ”Few leaders voiced their opinion on the letter written by the Archbishop to the Central government. But as far as CAA is concerned, it’s a democratic process passed in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and signed by the President of India. There is nothing wrong with what the Archbishop has said. He has not condemned the Government nor has he spoken about the government. He said that these are his views, you can recall it or act on it. Nobody should unnecessarily try to target the archbishop since finally he is a head of a religious institution”, Ticlo added.
