PANJIM: A brutal assault took place in broad daylight, on Tuesday. A scuffle between three drunken Kerala tourists has raised questions amongst the general public over public’s safety. The incident has also tarnished the image of Goa. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV spoke to people on whether the daylight brutal assault and indiscipline happening in Panjim is taking a toll on the image of Goa’s tourism.
Obviously. Don’t you think so? Why would anyone feel comfortable about situations of this type developing under their very nose in a city which is world famous. Panjim can be one of the most beautiful and successful cities in the world. Unfortunately tourism bosses don’t seem to understand. Or if they understand they have lost control of policing and lack of direction in governance itself. In the age of social media news about these brawls will spread around the world fast. This should have been corrected a long time ago.
Armando Gonsalves, Resident of Panjim
Twenty four by seven there is gambling. Twenty four by seven liquor is available. They drink so much, because they lose money in lakhs. They become frustrated. They sleep on footpaths. We see them when we go for morning walks. They are completely drunk. They are finished. They have finished they money, they have finished their life. I pray to almighty God save us senior citizens. There should be 24×7 policemen on the streets, since 24×7 there is liquor on the casinos. There is non stop drinking, non stop dancing and non stop gambling.
Rui Ferreira, Resident of Panjim
Most of the youth from outside the state come and drink till they are drunk. They are out of their senses and do dadagiri and nonsense. Some Goans may get involved and get fooled. They not only get drunk and roll on the floor, but sometimes they even assault locals. Definitely the name of Goa and Goans gets spoilt. Often film directors project Goans as involved in brawls and drunkenness. But mostly these are outsiders.
