Former sarpanch Julio Monteirio and four panch members were present amongst the villagers waiting for the meet. When the people of the village turned up at the community hall it was locked. No notice of cancellation of the meeting was published.
Many people tried calling the deputy sarpanch on his cell phone but it was found switched off. This was the adjourned meeting of the gram sabha held on August 2. The gram sabha was adjourned as the replies of the Deputy Sarpanch Gabriel Oliviera were not satisfactory.
Angry at the cancellation of gram sabha without notice, the villagers have demanded reasons for the same. “Today’s gram sabha was to discuss important issues such as dengue fever cases in Areal, removal of scrap-yards and industries which are responsible for the outbreak of dengue and mega projects,” said Freddy Travasso.
Presently, the panchayat is without a sarpanch as the previous sarpanch Julio Monteiro was voted out around a month back. The Panchayat is presently run by Deputy Sarpanch Gabriel Oliviera.
