MARGAO: After a lengthy deliberation on the issue related to Nessai land conversion, Sao Jose de Areal gram sabha members resolved to revoke all the licences given to the land developer to construct housing projects on the land bearing survey number 18/1.

At the Gram Sabha meeting held on Sunday villagers strongly opposed the project and demanded to revoke the permissions.

The villagers had expressed fear that the next generation will be left with no land if no control over the conversion in the village.

Villagers demanded that the land survey number 18/1 should be reserved for public utility.

It may be recalled that villagers of Sao Jose de Areal have been agitating against the village panchayat for giving all the permissions to the land developer without taking the villagers into confidence, and not deliberating the issue in the Gram Sabha.

They had even gheraoed the Sarpanch and other panch members over the issue in the past.

Gram Sabha members also resolved not to allow change in zone for the next 10 years.
