MARGAO: A resident of Sao Jose de Areal, Menino Fernandes, has charged South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha and District Collector N D Agrawal, of trying to misuse private open space by proposing development under the MPLAD scheme.
Addressing the media, Menino has demanded to know how the MP can take up the development of an open space under the MPLAD scheme without a nod from the residents of Sonum Township. “I had been running from pillar to post to get the goal posts removed from the open space and stop the illegal misuse of the space in the residential complex. Instead, the District Collector went ahead and awarded the contract to erect the net in front of my bungalow as if he and the MP are above the High Court and Supreme Court or the law,” he told the media.
Menino pointed out that the High Court on open spaces is very clear that an open space has to be always maintained an open space. “Opens spaces are to be used for the recreational needs of the residents and not the general public. If the MP and Collector fails to withdraw the order to develop the Sonum Township open space, I will be constrained to take legal recourse,” he warned.
He has also demanded to know the fate of the 5000 sq mts earmarked for the school in the development project of Sonum Township. “I have filed a FIR with the police on this matter,” he said, demanding thorough investigations to ascertain the land in question.
