MARGAO: The much delayed gram sabha of Sao Jose De Areal Panchayat convened on Saturday with villagers grilling the elected body regarding the much-opposed real estate project in the village.
Members fired salvo at the local body and questioned as to why resolutions passed against the project at Nessai, during the previous meeting held on November 20, 2022, had not been recorded properly by the panchayat secretary in the minutes of the meeting.
The locals also asked the panchayat as to how the NOC had been issued when there is no public access road to the sub-division of plots of this project.
Deputy Sarpanch Valent Fernandes tried to put the onus on the Town and Country Planning Department (TCP).
When the Deputy Sarpanch tried saying there is an access road, the same question was posed to Sarpanch Linda Fernandes, who said just exactly the opposite. Panchayat Secretary Mario Viegas also replied that there was no access road.
When the villagers asked the panchayat why the demand that had been put forward at the previous gram sabha for placing this issue before the Special Investigation Team, there was no response from the local body and the sabha was adjourned to April 16.
