The Deputy Sarpanch, Gabriel Oliveira led the no confidence motion against Monteiro and the motion was passed 7-4 at the special meeting held in the panchayat.
Oliveira and six members Mario Gomendes, Minguel Goes, Agnelo Moura Paris D’Costa Rosario Noronha and Fatima Dias voted in favour of the no confidence motion. The group that moved the no confidence motion in the second week of July had alleged that Monteiro was not taking the other panchas in confidence with respect to development works.
Deputy sarpanch Oliveira recalled that when their panel took charge, there was a decision among panch members that Monteiro would step down after two years and that the post of sarpanch would be shared in the remaining three years among the four other panchas.
Oliveira added that they had not asked Monteiro to step down after the completion of his two years as he was doing a good job. However, he felt that lately he was not taking members into confidence and thus the no confidence motion was moved against Monteiro.
Speaking to reporters Monteiro refuted the allegations saying he always worked for the development of the village and even carried out development in wards which were represented by opposition panch members..
