Areal villagers to obtain Matriz records

MARGAO: The Sao Jose de Areal gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to obtain Matriz details from the office of the Salcete mamlatdar for the benefit of the villagers.

MARGAO: The Sao Jose de Areal gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to obtain Matriz details from the office of the Salcete mamlatdar for the benefit of the villagers.
Gram sabha members pointed out that the matriz records will help the villagers to ascertain the land owners in the village on grounds that many land lords claim possession of the land in question only on the basis of form I & XIV.
Meanwhile, agitated gram sabha members have resolved to serve a six month ultimatum on the district Collector, South to initiate action against all illegal scrap yards in the village or face agitation.
The issue over illegal scrap yard operating in the village dominated the Sunday gram sabha with agitated members demanding immediate action. During his recent visit to the village, Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar had promised to take the necessary action against the scrap yards on condition the Panchayat complete the necessary formalities. After much discussions, the gram sabha resolved to serve a six month deadline on the district Collector to clear the village of scrap yards or face an agitation.
The gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Julio Monteiro also resolved to put in place a Village Development Plan before March 31 after placing the draft before a Special gram sabha. 
It has been decided that the village Plan will accord attention to rural housing for the STs, water harvesting, old age homes, horticulture, markets, development of the command area, micro industrial zone for local entrepreneurs etc.
Sarpanch Monteiro informed that the Village Development Plant will help the village and the Panchayat to seek necessary government funds to take up major projects.
The gram sabha further resolved to hike the trade tax vis-a-vis commercial establishments, including the 200 industrial units located in the Nessai Industrial Estate. It was pointed out that the trade tax on the commercial establishments was last revised in the year 1990.
The Sarpanch told the gram sabha about the decision to create a Panchayat website which will help offer online facilities for the villagers.
