MARGAO: The Sao Jose de Areal gram sabha on Sunday demanded immediate closure of the scrap yards with members adopting a resolution directing Sarpanch Julio Monteiro to issue a final notice on all scrap yard owners to immediately stop the business and vacate the premises.
The issue over the closure of scrap yard dominated the Sunday gram sabha with villagers alleging that member of gram sabha meeting as villagers allege that these scarp yards are cause of various problems including thefts in village.
At the Sunday gram sabha the issue was raised by Freddy Travaso and John Fernandes who received support from the villagers gathered at the meeting. Villagers also expressed that various developers have been developing land in village however that open space required to be maintained and gifted to the local panchayat is not done.
A resolution was adopted that all open spaces in village be handed over to the panchayat and that the body should utilize these spaces for construction of park/garden, community hall, ground, school use and other public utility purpose.
Villagers also took resolution that in future the developers need to gift open space to local body. Peter Viegas moved resolution demanding that the panchayat carry survey of ST community leaving in village and to hand the data to Planning & Statistic Department.
Viegas also tabled a resolution opposing a power coating factory proposed close to a school in the village fearing pollution. The meeting also adopted a resolution opposing use of helmets in the villages.
Issue regarding garbage and development works to be taken in the various wards of panchayat was also discussed by villagers at the meeting.
