PANJIM: Mine owner Anil Salgaocar’s son Arjun, who along with his brother Sameer were questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the illegal mining case on Monday, has submitted documents supporting their statements.
Arjun arrived at the SIT office, Dona Paula at about 11.15 am on Tuesday carrying documents, and left about half-an-hour later.
The SIT had extensively questioned the Salgaocar brothers on Monday and asked them to submit documents supporting the claims they made on Monday.
“We will verify the information after which further course of action will be decided. They (both brothers) could be summoned again if required,” an officer said. Meanwhile, their anticipatory bail applications will be heard before a special court on Thursday.
Anil Salgaocar and former urban development minister and raising contractor at S Kantilal & Co Pvt Ltd, Joaquim Alemao, along with others are being investigated following an FIR registered accusing the Sanguem-based firm of carrying out illegal mining and ore extraction.
The SIT in 2014 had registered an offence against them under various relevant sections of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and Forest Conservation Act, 1980.
