Sawaikar, Velip appear in court: Balli rioting case

MARGAO: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, United Tribals Association Alliance president Prakash Velip and Ganesh Velip appeared before the South Goa District and Sessions Court on Tuesday for the hearing of the May 26, 2010 Balli rioting case.

MARGAO: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, United Tribals Association Alliance president Prakash Velip and Ganesh Velip appeared before the South Goa District and Sessions Court on Tuesday for the hearing of the May 26, 2010 Balli rioting case.
Central Bureau of Investigation Assistant Public Prosecutor Shrivastava argued on Section 4. Judge Vincent D’Silva grilled the prosecution over the accusations mentioned in the chargesheet and demanded eyewitness accounts and statements of people naming and accusing any of the 21 accused which can invite prosecution under Section 4.
The judge also pulled up the prosecution for naming UTAA in the case without any substantial evidence of the members of UTAA being involved in the crimes. 
The 21 accused in the case are facing trial for destruction of public property rioting and other charges. Of these, 18 accused had applied for exemption. This includes UTAA president Prakash Velip and others. The hearings will continue during the week till September 4.
