MARGAO: Immediately after O Heraldo highlighted the issue of potholes and overflowing sewage chambers that had turned into death traps at Arlem-Raia, locals joined hands and repaired the damaged roads and overflowing sewage chamber.
Labourers were noticed at the site on Sunday morning and started the work repairing the sewage chamber and filling of the potholes, which gave a big relief to the motorists and locals.
However, what surprised the residents was the authorities or the local political leaders were waiting to resolve the issues till the media highlighted it. Arlem residents thanked the O Heraldo for helping them to resolve the issue immediately.
It is pertinent to note that citizens of Arlem-Raia had threatened to block the national highway if the authorities failed to stop the overflow of the sewage chambers and fill potholes immediately as they had turned into death traps. .
The large potholes at the site due to the overflowing sewage chamber had also resulted in hardships to motorists and residents as accidents were reported on a daily basis.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Rosario Colaso said that it will be a big relief to the citizens after the potholes have been removed by the locals themselves. However, authorities should attend to the grievances of the people immediately, he stated.
