MARGAO: The issue of candidates who had arrived from across the country to Army base in Aquem Baixo and causing a nuisance has been resolved, according to Sarpanch Siddhesh Bhagat.
“Two days ago I had a meeting with the Army camp’s commanding officer and as promised by him, the mess made by the recruits was cleaned up with the help of Army jawans. We also sprinkled Peroxide powder at many places to eliminate the odour at places where the candidates had urinated and defecated,” informed Bhagat.
Bhagat informed that the villagers and army jawans have been patrolling the village since Sunday to prevent the candidates from creating a nuisance in the village. He thanked the Army officials for taking up the cleanup work immediately and for patrolling the village till the recruitment was complete.
“Taking press conference on such issues will not help. In fact, we need to coordinate with military and get the mess cleared. We were not against the recruitment but against the system for not providing them with toilets. We need young people to join the army and we need to motivate them and support them but not at cost by troubling our villagers. Will see that remaining mess is cleared soon as promised by the commanding officer,” Bhagat said.
