The villagers had recently submitted a memorandum with signatures to panchayat, expressing their opposition to the tower, which had been installed last month. The panchayat had also allegedly informed the villagers that no permission was given for the same. On Friday, the locals visited the site and questioned a Reliance official on whose directions the work was being undertaken. The official allegedly stated that the company is paying rent for the tower to the panchayat. Angered by the reply, locals demanded an immediate stop to the work.
“We do not understand how they can go ahead with the work despite our objections. The MLA said that if people do not want the tower, it will be removed. We do not want radiation in our village. Elected representatives shouldn’t take us for granted by carrying out illegalities in the village,” said a local.
