CURCHOREM: South Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Shekar Prabhudessai has requested religious leaders to help police by arranging their own security personnel and install CCTV cameras in the religious places.
He was speaking at a meeting convened by Quepem Sub-Divisional Officer of Police with religious leaders and office bearers under the jurisdiction of Quepem sub-division office, at Ravindra Bhavan hall, Curchorem.
Speaking at the meeting, South Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Shekar Prabhudessai urged those gathered for the meeting to help the police by arranging their own security guards, fix CCTV cameras and see that the interior and streetlights in the vicinity functions to prevent thefts and other illegal activities in the religious places.
He also urged the religious authorities to keep their surrounding clean by trimming trees and bushes around the temples, churches and Masjid to protect the area from robbers and anti-social elements.
Requesting to fix the donation boxes with cemented concrete in their respective religious places, he asked the religious leaders and office bearers to furnish complete information of the employed security personnel.
“Without the cooperation of the people, police cannot do anything. It is the duty of everyone to take precaution before anything untoward happens,” said SP Prabhudessai and urged the people to inform the police immediately if they notice any suspicious person moving inside or near religious places.
Ambaulim Church Parish Priest Fr Ubaldo Fernandes and Fr Salvador Rebello urged the government to provide them some subsidy to purchase CCTV system. They also requested the SP to display the name and contact number of the beat police at the permanent place in the area.
Since the areas under the jurisdiction of Curchorem, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona are very vast, the parish priest asked the SP to provide more police force to the area. Quepem DySP Subash Goltekar, and Sanguem PI Raju Raut Dessai were present on the occasion.
