Arrest of Kejriwal has nothing to do with LS Polls: Goa BJP Chief

PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Friday claimed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested through proper channel and it has nothing to do with the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters, Tanavade said, ”By arresting Arvind Kejriwal, Enforcement Directorate (ED) has proved that there is law in the country. Laws are same whether someone is an ordinary person or an influential one. Kejriwal was served summons on eight occasions but he did not honour them. He should have respected it and appeared in the court. He was arrested after Delhi High Court refused to provide him protection.”

”This is not for the first time that a chief minister has been arrested. In 2005 when UPA government was there at the Centre, late Manohar Parrikar was summoned by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged International Film Festival of India (IFFI) scam, but he came clean. Parrikar appeared in the CBI Court along with his lawyers. Thursday’s incident has shown that there are laws in the country.”

”When Kejriwal was served the summons, he should have replied to them,” Tanavade said.

To a question, Tanavade said it is wrong to say that the incident is related to Lok Sabha elections as Enforcement Directorate  had served summons eight times before arresting Kejriwal.

”Election is for the political parties, not for Enforcement Directorate . The investigation is a continuous process,” Tanavade said.
