Arrest of Nigerian drug trafficker in Black Cocaine case, reignites focus on their free movement in Goa

Here’s the irony: In Goa FRRO records there are only 9 Nigerians in Goa, excluding those facing criminal cases

PANJIM: The focus once again shifts to the free run that Nigerians and other African Community persons have in Goa, after the unearthing of a major internal drug racket, involving a Bolivian woman smuggling Black Cocaine into Goa for further distribution to other parts of the country.

At the same time, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) records have revealed that there are only 9 Nigerians who are in Goa.

The FRRO has informed that there are four Nigerians in the detention cell at present of which three males and one female. Nine Nigerians are residing in Goa at present. Three are in Goa for education and the rest six on entry visas.

Total 24 Nigerians have been released from the detention centre to face trial. The Superintendent of Police, Bosco George has informed that the 129 Nigerians have been deported back to their country so far.

It may be recalled that in November 2013 hundreds of Nigerians living in Goa created a ruckus at Porvorim after the death of one of their fellow Nigerians.

It was said to be a result of the narcos turf war which resulted in the death of Obodo Uzoma Simeon. The FRRO SP George when asked whether the Nigerian arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau will be there in the records, he said, “He will be in the FRRO records.”

With the Nigerians being involved in multiple cases involving drugs, their involvement in the drug trade cannot be ignored.
