ARS, Calangute cops rescue 35 bulls

CALANGUTE: The Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) and Calangute Police on Friday rescued 35 bulls that were reportedly headed to an illegal slaughter house at Gaura Vaddo, Calangute.

CALANGUTE: The Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) and Calangute Police on Friday rescued 35 bulls that were reportedly headed to an illegal slaughter house at Gaura Vaddo, Calangute.
According to sources, the ARS team led by John Fernandes, Amrut Singh, Vinayak Ambroskar and Govind Natekar were informed that a truck carrying bulls for slaughter was proceeding to an undisclosed location.
Fernandes and others noticed the truck and followed it till Our Lady of Boa Viagem Chapel, Calangute, where they lost track of the truck as it drove in the direction of the HP gas godown.
Sources further informed that the ARS team got in touch with the local Animal Rescue team members and they noticed the empty truck returning from the area. The ARS team conducted a search of the bulls and found the animals at an isolated site in Gaura Vaddo.
The team then alerted Calangute Police and Govind Natekar filed a police complaint. Acting on the complaint, a Calangute Police team led by PI Nilesh Rane and PSI Mahesh Gadekar raided the area and rescued the 35 bulls.
Police also found tools for the slaughter, besides skeletal remains of other animals and other waste dumped in the gutter near the illegal slaughter house at Calangute. No arrests have been made so far and Calangute Police is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, animal rights activist Hanumant Parab said he will impress upon the government to crackdown on illegal cattle slaughter sites in the State.
