Arti Chari is new sarpanch of Verla-Canca p’yat

MAPUSA: Arti Chari has been elected unopposed as the new sarpanch of Verla-Canca panchayat.

A special meeting was called in the office of Verla Canca panchayat for the election of the new sarpanch and since Arti Chari was only one to file her nomination for the post, the presiding officer Shirishkumar Tari declared her elected unopposed. Out of nine members, five attended the meeting. Panch Vasudev Korgaonkar suggested the name of Arti Chari seconded by panch Ashok Arlekar.

It can be recalled that on June 2, five members of the Verla-Canca Village Panchayat had moved a no-confidence motion against the then Sarpanch Dipali Laxmikant Bicholkar, citing reasons like the sarpanch failed to take them into confidence on development works in the village and was encouraging illegal constructions.

The new sarpanch was also one of the members who signed the no-confidence motion letter.

Panchas Aarti Pavan Chari, Vasudev Laxman Korgaonkar, Mohan Vithal Dabhale, Digambar Uttam Kalangutkar and Ashok Ladu Arlekar were signatories to the letter of no confidence tabled against the sarpanch.
