Articulate lawyer Yatish to advocate BJP’s cause

Yatish Naik joins BJP after bitter experience with TMC, hails BJP’s ‘vision’ for Goa

PANJIM: Over two months after resigning from TMC, Yatish Naik on Monday joined hands with the ruling BJP.

Naik, who had a long stint with the Congress before joining TMC as General Secretary had resigned from the party just weeks ahead of the Assembly polls in the State. On Monday, Naik along with his supporters was inducted into the ruling party by BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade.

At a press conference that followed, Naik took a dig at his old political party claiming it has no ideology left.

“No use talking about that party because it has no ideology left. The BJP contested the 2022 Assembly Polls on two mantras – stability and development. This party had a clear vision with which its leaders approached the people and won their hearts. The person who thinks about Goa’s prosperity including that of its people, should accept the ideology and I am one of them,” he said while replying to media questions at BJP headquarters.

Naik refused claims that joining BJP for vested agenda stating, although he was in touch with Tanavade, he joined the primary membership of the party only after the elections.

“Prior to the elections, when I came to know this (TMC) is not going in a proper direction, I left the party. I was in touch with him (Tanavade). Any person who believes in the development of the State will abide by the principals,” he said.

In his resignation letter to TMC on Republic Day, January 26, Naik had said, “Seeing the manner in which the party is functioning, I find no good reason to continue being a member of the party. I feel humiliated, tired and dejected for having been made to go through all this.”
