MARGAO: The Food and Drugs Administration team raided several business establishments selling artificially ripened mangoes.
Business establishments illegally selling gutka and cigarettes too were raided.
The FDA officials seized artificially ripened mangoes, gutka and cigarettes worth Rs 44,000. The mangoes were being ripened by using Ethylene and other chemicals.
FDA Director Salim Veljee informed the team seized 1.5 tonnes of Alphonso mangoes worth Rs 32,000 from the warehouse of one Habib Narangi, who was operating in a shop below Margao flyover.
Meanwhile, a shop selling pan, supari and guthka in Margao too was raided by the team. Contraband cigarettes worth Rs 4000 and guthka worth Rs 8000 were seized.
At least 35 shops and establishments from areas of Malbhat, SGPDA market, Pajifond in Margao were raided by the team. However, nothing suspicious was found at these establishments.
