PANJIM: Artistes under the banner of Kala Rakhonn Mandd have detested the alleged attempt by Kala Academy to prevent artiste Rajdeep Naik from staging his drama ‘Ganv Zala Zanto’ on August 16.
The artistes said that the problems with Kala Academy renovation were voiced by them and even by MLAs in the Goa Assembly. The letter given by the Member Secretary to Rajdeep was an attempt to muzzle freedom of speech, they said.
Cecille Rodrigues alleged that the Kala Academy has formulated a new policy to harass the artistes in the state.
Sandesh Prabhudesai said this is the first instance when Kala Academy has questioned somebody over what he should say and what he should not.
“This was only an attempt to stop drama of Rajdeep Naik. It is very clear that all this was done to obstruct staging of his drama. Politics is being played with an artiste who is voicing his concern against lack of facilities,” Prabhudesai charged.
He said the government should sponsor the drama of Naik and show it to the people because it is for creation of awareness on Mhadei.
Francis Coelho said government cannot ask an artiste what to speak and what not.
He pointed out that recently it was observed that sound and lighting system was not as per the requirements and expectations of the audience.
Dnyanesh Moghe pointed out that recently a programme of a stand up comedian was held wherein he was allowed to bring his equipment with him but it was not in case of Goan artistes.
