Three women from Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly subjected to racial slurs and intimidation by their neighbours in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar over a minor repair at their rented flat. On February 20, the women had called an electrician to install an air conditioner, which caused dust and debris to fall to the floor below.
Neighbours Harsh Singh and his wife Ruby Jain reportedly objected, after which the dispute escalated. A video circulating on social media shows the couple using racial remarks and derogatory language, including questioning whether the women had opened a massage parlour at home.

A police officer was present and tried to calm the situation. The women confronted the couple, defending themselves against false allegations. The accused reportedly claimed political connections to assert superiority.
An FIR was filed under BNS sections 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (common intention), and 196 (promoting enmity based on race, religion, etc.). No arrests have been made yet.
The women said they faced mental harassment, humiliation, and threats to their accommodation. They demanded a formal apology, highlighting that the insults were not personal but targeted the dignity of the northeastern community.
