ARAMBOL: As the spate of burglaries begin to rise in Arambol, worried locals now demand that the police outpost which is currently housed in an inaccessible government primary school be immediately shifted into a well-equipped emergency centre at Junaswada.

The newly built emergency centre was inaugurated in October 2021, by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of former MLA Dayanand Sopte and former panch Santosh Barde. The premises are lying unused since then and locals have demanded that the police outpost be shifted here on a temporary basis. The present outpost is 200 metres away from the main road and has a very narrow access to it.

“The trail is rocky and becomes slippery during the monsoon. Around eight people including a constable were injured after they fell here,” said a villager Tony D’Mello.

“Police, officials, locals, tourists and businessmen often visit the outpost and considering the inconvenience to all, the venue calls for a change,” said Arambol Sarpanch Bernard Fernandes.

Meanwhile, the emergency centre which was built at the cost of Rs 1 crore has been left unused after inauguration and locals have questioned the government’s it has been kept closed.
