PANJIM: While former chief minister Digambar Kamat skipped appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the investigation on illegal condonation on Tuesday, the agency has asked his son Yogiraj to appear before it on Wednesday evening.
Kamat cited ill-health for not responding to the summons on Tuesday while requesting the investigating officer to postpone the questioning to Friday. SIT SP Kartik Kashyap confirmed the development stating that SIT will quiz the politician on Friday morning. “He requested to appear on Friday as he is unwell to respond to our summons today (Tuesday). We will question him on the fresh date (Friday),” he told Herald.
Kamat sent his personal assistant with the request letter to the Crime Branch office at Ribandar.
Kamat was issued summons last week to appear for investigation on Tuesday. Fearing arrest, he filed for anticipatory bail last Saturday in the Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
With no interim relief, the SIT launched a search operation at Kamat’s residences, and his party office to take him into custody. The Congress MLA from Margao continued to remain untraceable until the court granted him interim anticipatory bail on Monday.
Yogiraj has been summoned for questioning at 4pm on Wednesday. It was Digambar’s son who, during the search, had informed the SIT that his father was unavailable.
