As fatal accidents soar, Cong guns for Transport Director

PANJIM: The Congress has demanded removal of Transport Director Polumatla P Abhishek from his post for his alleged failure to take preventive measures in controlling fatal accidents on ‘killer’ roads in Goa.

In a letter written to Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel (IAS), Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar has served an ultimatum of 15 days to the government to rectify the black spots and accident prone zones in the State and demanded to regulate the traffic with effective traffic management.

”We have observed that the present Director of Transport is most insensitive, irresponsible and arrogant. It is his failure which has resulted in innocent persons losing their lives on the killer roads of Goa and has no right to continue as the Director of Transport,”  Patkar said

”We have observed that the Department of Transport has not done any follow up with the Public Works Department (PWD) to rectify the black spots and accident prone zones in Goa. The Transport Department has absolutely no control over traffic signals in Goa,” Patkar has said.

The Congress has alleged that the the Transport Department has miserably failed in regulating the rent-a-cab and rent-a-bike operators in Goa which has resulted in involvement of rented cars and bikes in various fatal accidents.

”The Transport Department has no clue about thousands of two wheelers used by e-commerce companies such as Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, Flipkart etc which has resulted in loss of revenue to the government,” Patkar claimed.
