VALPOI: For years, the villagers of Dhave in the Nagargao Panchayat of Valpoi Constituency have been grappling with a persistent water crisis. Despite numerous pleas and petitions to the local representative and village panchayat, the issue remains unresolved, severely impacting their daily lives.
With a population of about 500 residents, Dhave has been struggling to meet its water needs daily. The villagers receive only a trickle of water through the pipeline, making it a challenging and time-consuming task to fill and store water. Despite paying water bills ranging between Rs 300 to Rs 400, there has been no significant improvement in the water supply.
On Friday, Nakul Veluskar, a villager, demonstrated to O Heraldo the difficulty of filling a pot of water due to the low water pressure. “A 10-litre utensil takes two and a half minutes to fill. You can gauge the water pressure from this. We have to pay the water bills that come up to Rs 300-400, but there’s no improvement in the supply. Filling water is a tedious job, especially since we need to leave early for work,” he explained.
Another villager, Padmakar Kerkar, suggested a potential solution to the problem. He explained, “The government has an agricultural farm at Bimbal where there is a tank. The water to Dhave is supplied from this tank, but due to the village’s higher elevation, the water pressure is inadequate. I propose constructing another tank in Dhave to address our water issues. We have been suffering from this problem for years.”
