ASSAGAO: The Assagao gram sabha on Sunday opposed all type of night commercial activities in the background of sudden spurt in the number of mega projects and hotels in the village. Villagers unanimously resolved that no such activity should be allowed post the stipulated hours.
Raising the issue of enormous hotels that have come up and are found carrying on activities till late night, ex ward member Einstein Barretto wondered what was so beneficial in villas and hotels having crowds that party whole night and even disturb peace of others.
Barretto stressed that this was not any type of Assagao culture and so should be discouraged. He wanted to know from the panchayat what action is being planned on such premises that party whole night . “We don’t want prostitution or night clubs in Assagao. We don’t want night life culture,” he stated and was supported by many.
Earlier sarpanch Hanumant Naik read out the projects being initiated by the panchayat or the govt in Assagao and sought the cooperation of the people
Naik said the work of underground cabling has just begun and laying of water pipeline will also be taken up apart from this other initiatives of the panchayat in the field of garbage and other areas was highlighted. The issue of filling one vacancy due to the resignation of a committee member of the bio diversity committee was also taken up generating much heat at the meeting. The gram sabha members later elected one member and filled the post.
