BICHOLIM: Bicholim police Wednesday arrested a 42-year-old Assam native for allegedly murdering his wife in Bicholim last month. The accused has confessed to the crime, as well as to the murder of his first wife in Anjuna.
According to Bicholim Dy SP Umesh Gaonkar, the accused Amit Kumar Das and his wife Helan Sarkar came to Goa on February 21. On reaching the State, they got into a fight, and on February 24, he strangulated her in a rented room in Kudchirem, Bicholim. The accused then dumped his wife’s body in a stone quarry and covered it with two big stones.
On Tuesday, locals spotted the body and informed Bicholim police about the same. Police visited the site and forensic experts and a dog squad were also pressed into service.
Amit was brought in for investigation, where he revealed that he had also murdered his first wife, Deepa Das (32), at Anjuna beach.
Bicholim police are further investigating the case.
