MAPUSA: Mapusa police have taken custody of Augustino Carvalho, 31, a resident of Motiwado in Majorda for allegedly assaulting and robbing Rs 40,000, from one Raja M, at Guirim.
Carvalho was arrested by Maina Curtorim police who handed over his custody to Mapusa police.
Raja M, a resident of Merces, complained to Mapusa police that while returning home from Karaswada on June 20, at around 12.30 pm, he halted at Hotel Green Park, Guirim, and as he was halting there, a Swift car pulled up by his car. The driver of the Swift car got out of the vehicle, assaulted Raja, snatched cash of Rs 40,000 from him and fled from the scene.
On receiving the complaint, Mapusa police prepared a sketch of the accused based on the description given by Raja and circulated the same to all police stations in the State.
Using the sketch, the Maina Curtorim police nabbed the accuse person on June 25 night and handed him over to the Mapusa police. On questioning, the accused disclosed his name as Augustino Carvalho and that previously he was admitted in Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim. Currently, the accused is admitted in IPHB.
Mapusa police have booked Carvalho under Section 394 of IPC and PSI Paresh Ramnathkar is investigating the case.
