PANJIM: The monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly is likely to be summoned from July 19, during which Budget 2018-19 would be discussed and passed.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who resumed work Friday morning, held a series of meetings with the Ministers and it was unofficially decided to call the monsoon session from July 19 for a period of 12 days. This will be placed before Cabinet and the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
Confirming this to Herald, Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vijai Sardesai said, “However the same has to be endorsed by BAC.”
The Comptroller Auditor General of India (CAG) report for the financial year ending March 2017, may be also tabled during the session.
The Budget Session of the State Assembly held in February had been curtailed to five days following the sudden illness of the Chief Minister. Parrikar, on February 22 had presented a Rs 17,123-crore Budget for 2018-19, an increase of 6.84 per cent over the ongoing fiscal, with a stress on education and job creation.
On humanitarian grounds, the opposition Congress had agreed to allow the session to be curtailed. The opposition has lately been demanding that the monsoon session be summoned to take up issues related to mining, law and order, town and country planning, amongst others.
