The liquor association asserted that foreign liquors might run out of stock within a month or two, situation which will last for at least 6 months.
The reason being that four countries which exports scotch whiskeys and wines to Goa, are amongst the worst hit countries in the COVID-19 pandemic. Beer stocks will also be in shortage as supply from neighbouring States was disrupted after Goa sealed its borders.
“Although there are distillers in Goa, the raw materials required for manufacturing comes from outside Goa. So without the raw material, they cannot produce the product. The supply chain has to be maintained…then only the stocks will come. We are not sure of how much of the raw material will come from other States due to the lockdown… (With relaxation in several zones across the states) even if the factories which were closed and start operations today, it will take at least 10 days to get the production done,” Goa Liquor Traders Association President Dattaprasad Naik had said.
