QUEPEM: Assolda locals on Sunday protested over the time limitation of gram sabha at the Assolda Village Panchayat gram sabha and warned that they won’t allow to hold the next gram sabha in the village.

The locals showed aggression against the government’s policy on gram sabha time limitation after discussing on the main agenda.

Panch Kistod Fernandes criticised the government saying that after finishing the main agenda’s questions, no more time allowed to the public to discuss any other issues, which may be very important to the villagers sometimes if by chance any emergency occurs. This decision is very harsh for the common man, who is totally committed and busy with their work.

He added that this policy stops the common man to raise issues. Its better now, the government should stop taking gram sabhas, which are called for the people.

A villager, Angelo Fernandes informed that the panchayat is wasting money on a cattle pound but no solution is found yet.

Sandanand Raut said that due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns today’s gram sabha was held after one-and-half year. The panchayat body was in hurry to finish the gram Sabha without considering the people’s say.

“I felt ashamed about the today’s situation because it never happened before,” he added.

Sarpanch Lata Naik informed that the panchayat had announced the time schedule much earlier but the people come late for the gram sabha and due to this, the today’s situation occurred. The scheduled time was from 9.30 am to 11 am but the villagers came late. By the time, the panchayat body discussed and solved the issues.

Panchayat Secretary Lencia Luis informed that the meeting was held according to the quorum. There was nothing discussed out of quorum or other issues discussed. The decisions will be taken after the panchayat body meeting.
