Assolna gram sabha resolves to maintain Lohia Chowk sanctity

MARGAO: The Assolna Village Panchayat gram sabha held on Sunday, March 24 resolved to maintain the sanctity of Lohia Chowk from where national leader Ram Manohar Lohia launched the liberation movement.

MARGAO: The Assolna Village Panchayat gram sabha held on Sunday, March 24 resolved to maintain the sanctity of Lohia Chowk from where national leader Ram Manohar Lohia launched the liberation movement. 
The meeting resolved to stop the area from being used for the Thursday weekly bazaar The proposal was moved by gram sabha member Fredrick Borges and was unanimous accepted after debate. A decision to stop hawkers and vegetable vendors from using the place was adopted and that the same be used for holding programmes.
Some gram sabha members demanded a stop to the parking of buses at the Chowk and allow it to be used for temporary stop when visiting the market.  
A resolution was also adopted to renovate the panchayat ghar under Golden Jubilee funds after obtaining necessary permission from the director of panchayats.
Other resolutions were to tender and develop Modleam Tolleam, auction shops owned by panchayat, cleaning of drainage and issuing of notice to be displayed by shopkeepers ban sale/use of plastic bags within jurisdiction of Assolna Panchayat area. 
Acting sarpanch Savio Fereira replying to query of Remmy Diniz in regard to illegal filling of paddy field near SAG football ground informed the gram sabha that talathi shall act in the matter. He also informed that all kiosks in Assolna market had been issued notices and that after due process their licenses shall be cancelled.
Panchayat member Peter Crasto in a resolution asked the State government to install portrait of  late Dr Jack Sequeira who fought for the Opinion Poll in all panchayats, also objected to Mopa airport  and demanded recognition for Romi Konkani.
