Assolna houses excluded from draft CZMP: Sarpanch

ASSOLNA: Irked that the houses within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) have not been demarcated on the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), the Assolna village panchayat has now written to the Director of Environment and Climate Change as well as the Member Secretary of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) reacting to this draft CZMP maps and requesting to incorporate the changes suggested.

Assolna sarpanch Xavier Almeida stated, “It is observed that the new draft CZMPs prepared by the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) and sent to us are full of gross errors. It is observed by the local residents that the draft CZMPs prepared by NCSCM shows only those houses existing in 1971. Many houses and other structures have been constructed, expanded or repaired during the 50 years thereafter, but none of these are demarcated on the draft CZMPs prepared by NCSCM.”

In view of these errors the sarpanch has written to the authorities that these houses must be incorporated in the final CZMPs as per the guidelines laid down in CRZ Notification 2011 after requests from the affected people.
