CUNCOLIM: Agitated Assolna gram sabha members grilled Sarpanch Pedrina Cardozo and other panchas for failing to utilise Goa Liberation golden jubilee fund sanctioned by then Congress government. Gram sabha members questioned the panchayat members why they failed to utilise the development fund provided by government.
Members expressed their displeasure when the sarpanch informed that that golden jubilee fund had been returned to government, since it remained unutilised.
It may be recalled that during Goa Liberation golden jubilee year, the Kamat government had given Rs 50 lakh to each panchayat for the development of the village. Assolna panchayat failed to utilise this amount.
The gram sabha members also raised concerns at utilisation of panchayat funds for fighting litigations against illegal constructions. “Why the panchayat is spending huge amount of money to fight cases against illegal structure,” they questioned.
Members called for holding the panchayat body responsible for lack of development of the village. A member criticised the panchayat body for its lethargic attitude towards the village.
Burning issues of garbage and mobile tower were also discussed at the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Pedrina Cardozo.
The gram sabha also resolved to oppose nationalisation of rivers. “State government should not succumb to Central government pressure and should not allow them to nationalise our rivers,” the villagers said.
